Mary Arana Smith, age 58, of Gurdon, passed from this life on Monday, April 20, 2015 at her home. She was born October 19, 1956, in Flint, MI the daughter of the late James Clifton and Helen Marie Nutt Baird. Mary worked at the fast food restaurant in Gurdon for twenty two years and then as an assistant manager at Dollar General in Gurdon for one and one half years. She is a member of Center Point Baptist Church. Mary was a 1974 graduate of Gurdon High School. She was always proud of the fact that she tried and did work so hard for the town and the people in it. Mary was the past president of the Chamber of Commerce for two terms. She was honored many times from headquarters of the fast food restaurant that she worked at. Mary was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Baird O'Hart. Survivors are her husband, Robert Wayne (Bobby) Smith of the home, two sons, Robbie (Jennifer) Smith of Gurdon, and J D (Susan) Smith of Gurdon, three brothers, Gary (Sally) Baird of Siloam Springs, Steve (Sherry) Baird of Little Rock and Ronnie (Deanna) Baird of Gurdon, seven grandchildren, Jessica Williams, Nick, Fischer, Bryce, Lainna, Braxton, and Lane Smith all of Gurdon, two great grandchildren, Brenner and Jenna Williams of Gurdon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Center Point Baptist Church at Gurdon. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Welch Funeral Home.
