Feb 14, 1955 — Sep 11, 2021
Hot Springs
On September 11, 2021, Larry Ray Stanley of Hot Springs died at UAMS in Little Rock from a small stroke which developed into a massive brain bleed. Larry is survived by his forever bride, Vicki Lea Gray Stanley of Hot Springs, his daughter, Alissa Stanley Scott of Hot Springs, and his daughter Stormi Beth Moritz of Hot Springs. Larry has five beautiful granddaughters, Kathleen Scott, and Haley Scott, both of Hot Springs, Abby Martin of Sheridan, Samantha Martin of Garfield, and Ava Moritz of Hot Springs. Larry also has one, long waited for grandson, Kingston James Sutton of Hot Springs. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Evanelle Skaggs Stanley of Hot Springs, his brother William "Bill" Stanley of Little Rock, and son Dr. C. Christopher Martin of Jonesboro.
Larry was born at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM on Valentine's Day 1955. Being from a military family, Larry went to several schools around the country but graduated from Watson Chapel High School in Pine Bluff, AR in 1973. After graduation, Larry attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia where he obtained his bachelor's degree in political science. After serving in the US Army for 8 years, Larry went back to Ouachita Baptist University to get his master's degree in Education with an emphasis in History. With his enthusiasm for history, he was ready to impart his newly found teaching skills in the lives of young people. He began and completed his teaching career at Lakeside High School in Hot Springs. During his tenure, he served in many different capacities besides teaching while at Lakeside but the one he loved the most was being the "Voice of Rams" for 25 years. During those 25 years, he missed two home games. One was when his granddaughter was being born and the other was when he lost his son. Larry adored his co-workers and his students. It always thrilled him to see his former students outside the classroom walls. One of the last nurses to care for him was a former student. While he didn't always remember their names, he always remembered their faces. Larry loved to travel. He had visited Ghana, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Prague, Czechzia to name a few. He also loved traveling stateside just having recently made a trip to San Diego. Larry loved his God, his family, and his many friends from around the world
Larry loved his God, his family, and his many friends from around the world. The family requests wearing Razorback or Cardinal attire for his memorial service, in honor Larry's love for these two sports teams. Larry had a warm heart for his furry family.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Garland County Humane Society.
Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia. Visit www.welchfh.net to sign the guestbook.
