Joseph Oscar Hughes, age 62, of Gurdon, passed from this life on Friday, August 15, 2008 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born on October 7, 1945 in Prescott, the son of the late Oscar and Callie Roberts Hughes. Joe was a truck driver, a carpenter and a member of East Whelen Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Hughes.

Joe is survived by his wife, Wilma Gail Wingfield Hughes of Gurdon, four sons, Billy Joe Hughes, Daniel Marion Hughes and Jimmy Wayne Cooper, all of Whelen Springs, and Tommy Ray Hughes of Anchorage, AK, two brothers, Glen Hughes of Whelen Springs and David Hughes of Caddo Valley, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2008 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Gurdon, with Bro. Maurice Dickey and Bro. Lloyd Baumgardner officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Pallbearers will be Randy Hooks, Wesley Sparks, B J Hughes, Brandon Harper, Jimmy Joe Hughes and James Dickerson, Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be James Dickerson, Sr.
