Joan Johnson, age 80, of Delight, passed from this life on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis , TN. She was born on December 14, 1935 in New Orleans , the daughter of the late John Andrew and Rada Nelson Tubby. Joan was a United States Marine Corp veteran and served during the Korean conflict. After leaving the military, she worked for many years as a stewardess for American Airlines. Joan then worked as a nurse and retired from Pike County Hospital . She was a member of Delight Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, reading and collecting Precious Moments figurines. Joan was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Kathleen Stuart, four sisters and one brother.

She is survived by her husband, Murrel Johnson of Delight, one son, John Johnson (Cindy) of Millington, TN, four grandchildren, Lexie Johnson of Delight, Brandon Johnson of Cleburn, TX, Gavin and Amy Palpallatoc both of Millington, TN  and one great grandchild, Levi Johnson of Cleburn, TX, and one special niece Carol Wolfenberger of Yukon, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Delight Methodist Church with Jean Apollos and Jim Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Delight Cemetery . Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Pallbearers will be Tony Campbell, Lavelle Baily, David Garcia, James Nolen, Lonnie Clepper and Dewey McKinnon.

Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or LaCoda Indian School .
