Obituary

James William Hendrix (USAF Ret.) was born in Fresno , California on March 20, 1948 to A.J. Hendrix and the late Violet Reddell Hendrix. A.J. was a gospel preacher with the churches of Christ and James and his siblings moved from California to Idaho to Arkansas . James played quarterback for the first season of football for the Pea Ridge Blackhawks. Their first year was difficult as they got used to playing football. The next year, most teams put them as their homecoming games and they went 8-2, messing up the plans of many a team that year. In his senior year he scored 4 touchdowns in their own homecoming game. James was offered a soccer scholarship to play in college, but instead opted to serve his country in the Air Force. He spent two years in Tucson , AZ , two years at Incirlik Air Force Base in Adana , Turkey , and 16 years at Little Rock Air Force Base in Little Rock , Arkansas reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force in 1988, James, now going by Jim, went to Ouachita Technical School to become a copier repairman. He worked as a copier repairman in Arkadelphia and Springdale , spending the longest time in Arkadelphia working for Dan Cooks.  He retired in 2016 and enjoyed his retirement.

Jim was an active father, going to watch his children in the extracurricular activities they participated in. Soccer, Football, Choir, Opera, Musicals, Softball, Dance Recitals, Basketball, and Band. If his kids or grandkids were participating in it, he was going to be there to support them and be their biggest fan.

He loved sports, especially softball. He played on multiple teams in the Air Force and enjoyed playing in the church league in Arkadelphia. You could find him out at shortstop and in the batter's box with his silver bat. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Arkadelphia Badgers, and (his favorite) the Arkansas Razorbacks. In recent years, Jim and Connie had taken up riding the Spyder and going on rides with other Spyder enthusiasts. He was a Louis L'Amour enthusiast and had every book that was printed. He was a good friend that was always willing to sit down with you and listen. Jim loved jokes and will be remembered for his sense of humor. Instead of crying today, he would much rather it if you shared a joke with your family and friends. The cornier the better.

Jim passed from this life at his home on September 5, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Reddell Hendrix (2002).

Jim is survived by his wife Connie, of the home; Jami Hagan from Saint Petersburg, FL; J.J. Hendrix and his wife Lisa from Mt. Pleasant, TX; Toby Hendrix and his wife Laura from Overland Park, KS; Louise Warren and her husband Jason from The Colony, TX; Laura Montgomery from Hot Springs, AR; Linda Church and her husband Cody from Morrilton, AR. He is survived by his father A.J. Hendrix, his sisters, Louise Flowers and Kathy Bush, and brother, Jon Hendrix and his wife Patty. He is survived by 6 grandchildren: Adeline, Lily, Vincent, and Elias Hendrix; Sarah Sheperd and Rachel Warren. He was excited about his next granddaughter, Evelyn Hendrix, due in February of 2019. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins that he loved dearly.

A memorial service for Jim will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the Arkadelphia Church of Christ.  Brother J.J. Hendrix will be presiding. Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.  If you would like to make a donation in his honor he was a supporter of the Brown Trail School of Preaching in Bedford , TX and he would want you to always look for bikers.

Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.  Visit www.welchfh.net to sign the guest book.
