Emma Gene Barton, age 87, of Sparkman, formerly of Gurdon, passed from this life on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at her home. She was born March 10, 1922, in Red Hill, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Robert & Emma Parker Hindman. Emma was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Gurdon. She was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Barton, and one son Franklin Barton. Emma is survived by one daughter, Emma Lou Barton May & her husband Joe of Sparkman, one son Johnie Wesley Barton & his wife Fay of Sulphur, LA, one sister Ruth Vincent of Camden, four grandchildren, Jerusha May Schofer & her husband John of Sparkman, Joe D. Jay May & his fianc Jenna Lands of Chicago, IL, James May and Jennifer May both of Sparkman, two great grandchildren, Johnathan & Jacquelynn Schofer both of Sparkman. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia with Bro. Kevin Moss and Bro. David Dillard officiating. Visiting hours are 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bluff City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay and James May, John Schofer, and Bill, Roger and Tommy Adams Memorials may be made to the Gurdon Senior Citizen Center.
