Dorothy Faye
Mcanally Harkrider
Feb 5, 1933 — Mar 1, 2026
Arkadelphia
Dorothy Faye McAnally Harkrider, aged 93, of Arkadelphia, was called home to be eternally with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 1, 2026. She is now and forever will be in His presence, with the hosts of heaven and the saints.
Dorothy was born in Hope, Arkansas, on February 5, 1933, to Thomas Maclin McAnally and Eunice Holloway McAnally. She was the ninth of twelve children. She graduated from Arkadelphia High School in 1951, and later attended college at Louisiana State University at Alexandria, completing her degree at Ouachita Baptist University in 1979.
In the spring of 1951, she met William A. (W. A.) Harkrider, and they were married on March 17, 1951. They had three children – Peggy, Larry, and Jane. Their life together led them from Arkansas to Texas, then to Louisiana, and finally, back to Arkansas. They were married for 52 years, until W.A. went to be with the Lord Jesus in 2003.
Dorothy was a faithful and dedicated Christian woman who loved her church–Third Street Baptist Church. She read her Bible daily, not just one time a day, but throughout the day. She loved to listen to preachers on television, and her particular favorites were Dr. Charles Stanley and Dr. David Jeremiah. She also read their books, over and over. Wherever she lived, she sought out Bible study groups that she could join.
She loved music and sang in church choir, and was even learning to play the piano, a skill she had wanted to develop all her life. Her favorite songs were old hymns and she wanted to be able to play them while she sang.
Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, word searches, reading, studying her Bible, practicing the piano, and putting jigsaw puzzles together. She and her daughter Jane often worked on them together, which Dorothy enjoyed immensely!
She also enjoyed traveling, and accompanied her daughters and sons-in-law on five trips to Europe, visiting cities and sites in England, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, and Germany. She also made several trips with Francis Custom Tours, touring cities and sites throughout the U.S. Her last and favorite trip was to the Holy Land.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Harkrider, and her son, James Larry Harkrider; her parents; seven brothers–Willie Lee, Garland, James, Robert, Thomas, Dale, and Joe McAnally; and three sisters–Gladys McAnally, Christene McAnally, and Shirley Loy.
She is survived by two daughters – Peggy Stratton (Phil) of Hot Springs and Jane Adams (Danny) of Hot Springs Village; three grandsons – Michael and Alan West and Christopher Hardman; seven great-grandchildren – Sam, Aiden, Abby, and Alyssa West and Anna Claire, John Allen, and Ava Rose Hardman; and one brother, Charles McAnally.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Welch's Funeral Home with Brother Greg Lathem of Third Street Baptist Church officiating.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until the service begins, at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia.
